Last month we heard about bumblebees. This month the subject of our talk is something a little bigger – The Great Bustard.
On 15th June we’ll welcome David Waters, Executive Officer of the Great Bustard Group, which is based on Salisbury Plain. The Great Bustard was once common in the UK but hunting and changes in farming methods lead to its eradication in the 1830s. In 1998, David and a group of enthusiasts came together to explore how to reintroduce the Bustard. They started releasing small numbers of these beautiful creatures in 2004, with further releases being undertaken every year since. To date, more than 100 birds have been successfully reintroduced – and the Group has attracted His Majesty King Charles as its Patron.
David will tell us about the programme and how it is progressing. We think you’ll find his presentation eminently fascinating, duly impressive and assuredly too good to miss. See you there!
Entry for Members is included in our annual Membership fee. Visitors can pay £4 on the door. No need to book in advance.
This is the last talk in our 25/26 programme. We’ll start again in September. We’re still finalising the programme and will post details here as soon as they’re ready. Keep checking to see what we’ve got planned for you…
