Monday 21st September sees the first talk in our 2026/2027 season and we’re setting a high bar from the start.

Ever thought about laying a hedge to support wildlife? Not sure how to go about it? Wonder no longer, because Phil Hart, one of the UK’s leading experts, will talk you through the tips and techniques of the craft.

Hedgerows provide vital resources for mammals, birds and insect species. As well as being an important habitat in their own right, they act as wildlife corridors between otherwise isolated pockets of nature.

Hedgelaying is a craft that preserves the past and protects the future. It is a skill set that has been practised for hundreds of years, passing from generation to generation due to its importance in agriculture, nature, our environment and our heritage.

As usual the talk is at 7.30pm in the Recital Room at South Hill Park. There’ll be a (very short) Society AGM beforehand. The cost of the talk is included in our annual membership fee or £4 for visitors (although only paid-up Members can vote at the AGM).

We look forward to seeing you there.
